The importance of ergonomics
Ergonomics in production facilities is all about fitting a job to your employee. Improved ergonomics can potentially help lessen muscle fatigue and even help avoid musculoskeletal disorders.
According to the US Department of Labor, ergonomics-related injuries account for US$ 15-20bn every year. In 2013, such injuries caused 380,600 days away from work which is one third of the total number of reported days absent.
In the UK, a recent study by the Health and Safety Executive stated that musculoskeletal disorders affect one million people every year as a direct result of poorly designed workstations.
In light of this, it is not surprising that the study of ergonomics is becoming more and more important. Ergonomic design can increase motivation and satisfaction and ultimately result in better performance and higher productivity.
How to do it
Depending on the type of work, there are guidelines on how it is done ergonomically correctly with regard to height adjustment of workstations:
Or how to arrange the work at the workstation:
At LINAK, we offer a variety of lifting columns, actuators, control boxes and controls built to adjust applications, found in a typical production line, to fit the specific employee perfectly and thus improve ergonomics for that specific employee. The result is better ergonomics, fewer musculoskeletal disorders and fewer days away from work for the benefit of both the company and the individual employee.
For workstations specifically, it is essential to be able to adjust the height of the station to fit the employee and the type of work.
Lifting columns such as the DL2 or the BL1 combined with, for example, a CBD6S control box and a DP control panel will guarantee smooth adjustment for every occasion.
For conveyer belts, a height adjustment and electrical tilt function can help improve the ergonomics for employees.
Lifting columns such as the BL1 and the DL2 combined with a CBD6S control box and a DPF with Display will ensure optimal conditions for employees and increased efficiency.
