What is a mattress zone adjustment system?
This type of electric actuator system is designed to adjust the firmness of mattresses in beds. This is achieved by fitting one or more Baselift™ electric linear actuators underneath the mattress—not inside it. The Baselift™ easily fits under most beds or within most bed frames. The setup can vary depending on the need; however, it can be configured to adjust between 0 and 100 mm.
The actuator can both push and pull, making it possible to adjust the firmness to be either firmer or less firm than the starting point. When the actuator pushes into the mattress, it increases the firmness and support of the mattress in the relevant areas. In the opposite direction, releasing pressure from the mattress makes it less firm in the specified area. For users, this can provide pressure relief, additional support where needed, or spinal alignment for more comfortable sleep.
This type of system is easy to install within a bed frame and introduces a new level of individualized comfort to the bedding industry.
How does mattress zone adjustment work?
- Select a mattress zone.
- The actuator moves beneath the mattress.
Pressure to the mattress will either increase or decrease in the selected area. - Support or relief in the selected area increases.
- The user experiences a firmer or softer area.
How do I control the movement?
We offer manual adjustment with wireless hand controls.
Typical mattress zones
This is an example of how mattress zones are most commonly arranged in a double bed:
- Shoulder zone
- Hip zone
- Lumbar zone
How does this affect my bed frame?
Your standard bed frame needs only minor adjustments to provide adjustable mattress firmness. The Baselift actuator requires a stable foundation to press against the mattress, and it must press into a surface that delivers balanced upward pressure. This can be achieved in many different ways—usually tailored to the specific brand.
Typical system setup
The most common setup of a mattress zone adjustment system is between 1-4 comfort zones and can consist of:
- Baselift™ Residential actuators
- CBD6S Residential control box
- BLE2LIN Bluetooth® adapter
- Hand control
The concept allows for up to 8 Baselift™ actuators connected to 2 control boxes, and can be further developed as a multi-parallel system with an additional 8 actuators, and 2 control boxes, if the application requires it.
Why call it mattress zone adjustment?
We refer to zone adjustment in a mattress because we use one or more actuators to create the feeling of the firmness of a mattress changing in defined areas. The user simply feels themselves adjust the mattress firmness to an ideal comfort level. How these areas or zones are placed and managed depends on the setup, but from a user perspective the change in firmness happens in the mattress.
